Day 8

Due to being booked out, I had selected a western style twin single for the first night in Kyoto then a minshuku for the following three nights.

The western room was in the main building facing the street and had a good view of the Heian Shrine from the window. The beds were quite small and nothing special. The 100y for 10 minutes of censored porn on a little 12″ television seemed tacky but is very popular in Japan.

The Japanese style room was a basic 9 mat room with bedding in a cupboard that we set up ourselves. The main difference between a minshuku and a ryokan is that the latter is a more inclusive experience and usually includes meals.
